How IFAs and Financial Planners can create their own Facebook business / fan page
At last count (this month), around 20% of IFAs said they had a personal Facebook page. But almost none of them have a Facebook business or 'Fan' page.
Basically, personal pages are invisible to Google and other search engines - with the exception of your name. No other detail is visible.
However Facebook business pages are very visible to search engines, and can often appear on the first page of Google results for your name, your business or specific keywords within seven to fourteen days or even quicker. For example, after the main IFA Life website, our Facebook page appears in second place in Google results for the phrase 'social networking for IFAs'.
IFAs who use this tool carefully, could also benefit, so here's how you set up your page.
Go to IFA Life's page on Facebook here >>> While you are there, click on Become a fan!
Scroll to the bottom of the left hand column, and click on 'Create a page for my business' or similar.
Then set up your page. Note that once you have chosen the name for your page, you cannot change it - so choose carefully.
After that - invite friends, colleagues, professional connections and clients to become 'fans'. It's a rubbish expression but that's what they call it on Facebook!
After that, it's up to you. Add links and content on a regular basis in order to add value to your fans.
Finally, if you scroll to the top of the left column of your page, you can create a widget to put on your main website, so that your site visitors know that you are also on Facebook.
Good luck! And don't forget to post a link in this thread to your Facebook business page so that we can become fans too.

It does post updates to my personal page which wasn't really in the plan. Any ideas how to stop it?
Make absolutely sure that the name you give your page is what you really want, because you can't change it once it has been created - even typos!

Thanks for this info on how to set up a business page. I managed to do this but it's closely linked in to my Facebook personal page. I'd rather not be promoting my seminars / business videos etc to old school and Uni friends. I wondered how you set up IFAlife on facebook as it's clearly not an extension of the Phil Calvert facebook page. To keep it separate should I create another facebook identity eg: Thomas Dickson Essential Money - Specialist IFAs etc etc.. with another email address?
Many thanks for any advice
Thomas
