Terms & Conditions

1. General Terms and Conditions

Since the IFA Life online 'Club' was formed in 2004, we've not had to remove a single post in the Forum due to defamatory or disrespectful behaviour online. The overwhelming majority of IFA Life members use the Forum to share best practice, ask questions, exchange ideas, network with each other, debate industry issues, provide help and support to one another and to enhance their profile and reputation.

We hope to keep it that way, but please read these important points.

2. Acceptable Use and Code of Conduct

Comments in the IFA Life Forum are monitored and moderated. We believe there should be a balanced representation of views, but we don't like outbreaks of trolling or arguments as this spoils the enjoyment of the site for others. IFA Life will not allow disputes to be played out between members in the Forum area, and will not hesitate to close or remove posts and block members at its sole discretion and without warning.

Robust debate is healthy and valuable. But please keep all interactions friendly and respectful. Be aware that everything you post on IFA Life can be seen and read by other members - which means that what you write goes towards establishing and influencing your professional reputation. What you write in the Forum cannot be seen by non members or be indexed by Google or other search engines.

Forum posts/messages which add value to other members always go a long way towards enhancing reputations and to building the perception of your expertise. Posts and messages which are rude, offensive and attack others do exactly the opposite and may be removed.

Please remember that other people have their own opinions on subjects, so allow them to have and express their point of view. Having a strong view on a subject will not necessarily mean that a post will be removed or the author blocked from using the site, but argumentative and rude behaviour may lead to one or the other or both. Challenge authors of posts by all means, but do not harass, abuse, be rude or cause distress.

Do not Spam the IFA Life Forum or Articles section with sales messages. Please do not add multiple identical posts throughout the different sections of the Forum or they will be removed. If you wish to post advertisements, please do so on your profile page or contact IFA Life for a range of commercial options.

IFA Life operates a football style yellow and red card system. The referee, players and crowd want a free-flowing and exciting game, but the referee reserves the right to send someone off the pitch without warning.

The views expressed by members in the Forum are theirs alone and do not reflect those of IFA Life - neither does IFA Life vouch for the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of Forum posts. You are responsible for the accuracy of your own remarks and for checking accuracy if acting upon someone else's remarks, advice and comments.

3. Unacceptable Material and Complaints

IFA Life will not accept any posts which are racist, unethical, illegal, threatening, obscene, vulgar, hateful, knowingly false, inaccurate, sexually oriented, invasive of a person's privacy or which attack religious beliefs. We will remove posts in the Forum entirely at our own discretion and reserve the right not to enter into correspondence about it.

If you find a Forum post which is objectionable and which appears to go against the conditions outlined here, you are encouraged to contact, and if necessary complain to IFA Life by email (see address below). If, at entirely our own discretion we determine that the complaint is justified, we will remove the Forum post at the earliest opportunity.

4. Copyright Material

You must not post copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or by IFA Life. If you refer to articles, blogs or comments in copyright material (which includes websites), please always include details of the source or a link to the source. For very long URL links, we suggest you use a URL shortening tool such as TinyURL (http://tinyurl.com/).

5. Links to Third Party Websites

IFA Life includes hyperlinks to websites which are operated by parties other than IFA Life. Such hyperlinks are provided for your reference only. IFA Life does not control such Web sites and is not responsible for their content. IFA Life's inclusion of hyperlinks to other websites does not imply any endorsement of the material on other websites or any association with their operators. Members follow links to other websites at their own risk and IFA Life accepts no responsibility for loss as a result of your use of such websites.

Members of IFA Life may include external links within their profiles, articles, Forum posts and advertisements. Members found to be linking to obscene, pornographic, racist or sites that might resonably considered to be objectionable may have their content removed or account closed without warning.

6. Industry Providers, Recruiters and Suppliers

Providers, Recruiters and Suppliers to IFAs are welcome and encouraged to comment on existing Blogs, Articles and messages in the Forum. Providers, Recruiters and Suppliers may also post generic Articles, Blogs and Forum messages of their own. Providers, Recruiters and Suppliers wishing to post anything of a commercial nature (i.e. promoting products, services and jobs etc) should contact IFA Life for a range of advertising opportunities.

We reserves the right to remove any posts, articles and Blogs of a commercial nature which do not have prior approval from IFA Life.

7. Membership

As a condition of your use of this Web site, you warrant to IFA Life that you will not use this website for any purpose that is unlawful or prohibited by these Terms and Conditions.

When joining, we request that you provide your correct and full name, though we do not insist on it if confidentiality is required - for example if looking for career information and options when considering leaving your current employment. Accounts on IFA Life which are believed to be false, dishonest, deliberately misleading or which give incomplete names may be removed without notice. Accounts which misrepresent an adviser's independence, regulatory status or how they are remunerated will be removed and may also be reported to the appropriate regulatory authorities.

If you wish your account profile name to be confidential and would prefer to use a pseudonym, please contact us to advise us accordingly to admin@ifalife.com.

However, please note that given the nature of Social Networking websites - forum comments, blog posts and articles by members who are known to be using a pseudonym but who do not adopt our best practice guidelines below, can on occasion be unsettling to other members - and where, in our sole opinion a member appears to be abusing their confidential status, we will not hesitate to block them from using the site.

Experience has shown that where posting a question or comment in the Forum, it is good practice for members using a pseudonym to state this at the beginning of their post. We strongly encourage any member using a pseudonym to adopt this practice.

Providers and Suppliers joining IFA Life should also give the name of the individual joining in addition to their company name. Profiles in the name of a company only, which do not provide a named individual may be removed without notice.

You expressly understand and agree that IFA Life shall not be liable to you for any direct or indirect use of the IFA Life website or services, including without limitation any failure of performance, error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorised access to, alteration of, or use of records, whether for breach of contract, tortuous behaviour, negligence, or under any other cause or action.

You agree to indemnify and hold IFA Life and its subsidiaries, affiliates, agents, co-branders or other partners and employees, harmless from any claim or demand, including reasonable legal fees, made by any IFA Life member or third party due to or arising out of content you submit, post, transmit or make available through the IFA Life website or on any site that chooses to link to or display the content, your use of the IFA Life website, your connection to the IFA Life website, your violation of these terms and conditions, or your violation of any rights of another.

You also agree that IFA Life may use or reprint your public profile page for occasional use in marketing materials, presentations and promotions (e.g. exhibitions). If you do not agree to this, please contact us and your profile will not be used in this way.

IFA Life is owned and operated by IFA Life Limited, and is operated as a for-profit trading enterprise, managed by the Directors in order to make a financial return for its shareholders.

IFA Life reserves the right to change the terms, conditions and notices under which this website is offered without notice. By using IFA Life, you are accepting these conditions. If you do not agree with them, please do not participate in any way or post any material in the Forum or Articles area. Please contact us and we will remove your account and profile.
